About Us

At Ke Nako we believe independent deployment of private equity capital will be the catalyst for inclusive growth to build a better and stronger South Africa. Our vision is to build leading world class businesses using South African skills and resources. We are looking to partner with institutions and businesses to build a brighter vision.

Our Journey

After building up 12 years of specialist investment experience in our niche sector, establishing a strong track record over four separate funds, and investing through the global financial crisis of 2008, we are ready to begin the next chapter in our incredible journey.

Established as an alternative investment specialist with a focus on the South African mid-market private equity sector, we initially invested primarily into private equity funds.

After launching our first fund, Ke Nako Fund I, we realised that our resources and extensive network placed us in a unique position to increase co-investments in our portfolios. This attractive addition provides our investors with an opportunity to earn a higher net return than through a traditional private equity fund-of-funds model.

Responsible Investing

We are a proudly South African organisation that’s passionate about making a lasting positive impact on our society.

We believe that sound environmental, social and governance (ESG) management practices can foster successful financial performance and build business resilience over the long-term.

We promote clear and consistent ESG management practices across our portfolio, to create value for our investors and uphold the integrity of the capital deployed.

Risk Management

To manage our portfolio risk efficiently and strategically, we have created our own proprietary risk management system. This system is powered by market-leading technology on-boarding private equity data we obtained through our extensive network of various participants within South Africa’s private equity sector.

Over the past 12 years we have established ourselves as a preferred value-added partner to South African General Partners (GPs), enabling us to offer our investors with access to exclusive deal flow.

Our extensive investment experience and established network enables us to actively support transformation in the local private equity industry and foster inclusive economic growth in our country.

Ke Nako applies global best practice in constructing a portfolio that blends primary, secondary and co-investments. Our long-standing relationships with South Africa’s top General Partners allow us to achieve high levels of transparency into General Partners strategic plans, as well as the companies we co-invest into.

Ke Nako provides large investors with an opportunity to have a separate managed account with bespoke characteristics that will generate exceptional returns. Our customised offerings are an enhancement to any long-term investment programme.

Thuso Incubation Partners (Proprietary) Limited (“Thuso”) is an independent, majority black-owned and managed company. Being an incubated partnership between Ke Nako and its Black Staff, Thuso is the only transformed team in SA with extensive experience in incubating local teams in private markets and real assets.

Through our active allocation to primaries, secondaries and direct investments, our investors have attained a diversified exposure to over 50 companies within the attractive South African mid-market sector.
